Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian is a Canadian-American feminist media critic as well as a public talker. She is the co-founder of Feminist Frequency a website that offers videos and blog posts that analyze the representation of women in pop culture. Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian-American journalist and critic who has been awarded awards for her writing, is a feminist blogger. Feminist Frequency is a non-profit educational website which analyzes how females are represented in narratives from popular culture. Committed to deconstructing the stereotypes of women that have been portrayed in popular culture, she also tries on issues related to harassment targeted at women, as well as the marginalized groups of the Internet world. Sarkeesian, who holds an MS in Social and Political Theory with a degree from York University, is also well-known as a sought-after public speaker. She has given speeches at the TEDxWomen XOXO Festival and United Nations Broadband Working Group to Gender. Inquiring about gender and feminism since an early age she launched her own website Feminist Frequency in the year 2009 when she was studying at the University. Her website was in the process of launching a collection of web videos examining the female representation in video games when she became the victim of online harassment. The attack did not stop her, however it did strengthen her commitment to be feminist media critic. Her many notable contributions in the field of feminist has been acknowledged by many awards. Anita Sarkeesian has been a media critic for years and is the founder of Feminist Frequency, an educational non-profit that explores gender representation in pop culture.
